why Mission of Hope

In early summer the outreach team for Mountain View Church began to talk about a trip.  In recent years we had been to Costa Rica , NYC, and New Orleans.  The group this time was about 17 people with skills in medicine, engineering, construction, care-takers, cooks,  decorators, a preaching pastor and some organizers.

We wanted a ministry which could use many diverse skill sets but all of us were willing to be flexible and serve as needed.  Mission of Hope came to our attention when an Iowa friend of one member began to tell of his time in Haiti.  Another team members husband had been in the Iowa church where this friend lives and noted the excitement there trips were creating.  Our team leader began to research the Mission and found it to be diverse and accommodating.  Our trip date was selected and preparations began.

The beginning of Mission of Hope or MOH began when Sharon Johnson fell in love with the people of Haiti in 1972. The development really came when her son Brad and his wife Vanessa moved to Haiti full time in 1998 and begin to develop the property purchased by the Johnson's.  They began to build an on site orphanage, medical facility, school and church.  The ministry continues to grow and expand sometimes in co-operation with other ministries  to tackle new challenges.  They currently have two campuses and feed 70K children daily by distribution of foods.

In everything they do they endeavor to intentionally model Christs love through relationships and sharing the gospel message.  They are developing national leaders in all areas of ministry and doing their best to use all resources and talents for God's glory.

The MOH website is www.mohhaili.org  there is a wealth of information video and pictures.  Check it out.
